La Spezia 6th March 2015.

"Laudatio" written by Professor Massimo Musio Sale:
"On the occasion of the tenth year of the foundation of the program for Master Degree in Yacht and Cruising Vessel Design, the recognition given by the Minister of the University to allow us to assign this honour makes us proud for at least three reasons.
The first one is related to the value that this event indirectly reflects on the prestige of the Naval and Nautical Design discipline acquired over the years in academic field, enhancing aspects of knowledge that are part of the best Italian culture and which are widely recognized and internationally appreciated, defining them as the culture of the Italian Design.
The second one is related to the sign that this honour manifests, addressing to the work of a young person who with his job has been able to distinguish the discipline bringing unique values and characteristics to this discipline. In the history and restoration of ancient boats he brought profound innovation as well as cultural and scientific improvement of this sector, preserving, enhancing and expanding the knowledge of traditional building techniques, declining knowledge of the different regions or countries and classifying this culture with a work continuously carried out according to studies and projects methodologically controlled and therefore enriched with discoveries and revisions, impossible to coordinate without a rigorous scientific process of project definition.
The third reason that makes us proud is that this award is given to a person who, because of his fame, from La Spezia has been able to reflect outside the best territory's traditions of the culture tied to the sea, to the technical knowledge, but also and especially, for his design talent.
Even before the birth of the modern figure of the designer, naval or marine architect and engineer, the Faggioni's had already experienced boat builders, handing down from generation to generation their knowledge, typical of the shipwright. Indeed, the Faggioni's family, undertakes and develops from the eighteenth century a thriving shipbuilding in Cadimare (La Spezia). In the last Century, from carpenters and skilled builders, treasuring their predecessors' cultural heritage, the Faggioni's became planners and designers. Thus was born the Studio Faggioni Yacht Design that now exists since four generations and is involved in naval design and restoration; an art and a sensitivity gained over time and constantly renewed, will keep pace with the knowledge evolution.
It' about an experience that is rooted precisely in the great tradition of shipbuilders and carpenters of the Gulf of La Spezia, which, for his physical shape since ancient times is the ideal location for the shipbuilding activities....
...The experience represented by Stefano Faggioni, continuing the craft inherited from his dynasty, is dedicated especially to the salvage and restoration of historic vessels. This culture expresses itself only in recent times as an element of value to grow and implement again in the next future; an area that still remains complex and modestly referenced in the naval-nautical world. In this sense it is due to Stefano Faggioni the recognition of credit for developing this discipline with excellence results nationally, but also internationally.
For these reasons, the Council of Study Program Board of the Master's Degree in Yacht and Cruising Vessel Design has presented the Honorary Degree to Stefano Faggioni. The honour is awarded in recognition of the ongoing professional diligence, to the continuous scientific research for the enrichment of this discipline, and finally, to the incessant availability offered to share his knowledge with the students of this University, future witnesses of the cultural continuity of this knowledge.
In the name of this Council, I request the Rector, by the powers conferred to him by law, to proceed with the proclamation of the new graduate."
